RCMBA MAKES DREAMS REAL WITH RCC
For Environment Protection
August 28, 2008
Report by PP Harold Dacumos, Chair, D3830 Rotary Community Corps

In support to the RI District 3830 thrusts under Gov Boyet Limon to enhance and protect the environment, the Rotary Club of Makati Bel-Air joined as a sponsor and active participant to the Save Laguna Lake Project Bamboo Reforestation Project, a district wide initiative of participating D3830 Rotary Clubs to save the Laguna Lake Taguig Micro-Watershed. The project will be undertaken through the joint and collective efforts of the Laguna Lake Development Authority under General Manager Ed Manda and the City of Taguig under Mayor Freddie Tinga.

Pres Yolly, PP Harold and PE Roland with other Save Laguna Lake project partners

Together with 33 other Rotary Clubs, RCMBA Real Good President Yolly Abueg assisted by PP Harold Dacumos, District Chair, Rotary Community Corps (RCC), will establish a Rotary Community Corps in Bagumbayan, one of the coastal barangays of Taguig City. To be registered with Rotary International as Barangay Bagumbayan, Taguig City RCC, it shall be composed of local community leaders as well ordinary residents and will serve as the club’s Partner-in-Service. The Bgy. Bagumbayan, Taguig City RCC will be enabled by RCMBA to establish a bamboo nursery to produce initially 1,000 seedlings. After about six months from nursery establishment, these bamboo seedlings will be planted in the 7.5 km critically eroded and silted coastline area within the Laguna Lake Taguig Micro-Watershed.

As part of the project plan, RCMBA is committed to support the training on bamboo nursery production of 3 selected members of Bgy. Bagumbayan RCC scheduled on September, 2008. The three day technical training on bamboo production shall be undertaken by the Laguna Lake Development Authority. Aside from the bamboo project, which is also intended as a source of livelihood to its members, the organized RCC will be supported by RCMBA in other community and vocational service projects such as reduction of child mortality, provision of potable water supply and literacy programs.

LLDA GM Ed Manda and DG Boyet as special guests during the consultative meeting

Last July 26, 2008, PP Harold Dacumos helped arranged a stakeholders consultative meeting at the Taguig City Hall to present the details of the project with the Taguig City residents and community organizations coming from the 18 barangays. The meeting was participated in by Governor Ed Limon, SAG Edna Sutter, LLDA GM Ed Manda (also IPP of RC Makati Central), Taguig City Councilors Gloria de Mesa and AP Bartolome and Mr. Espital of the Taguig City River and Lake Management Office.

Also during the consultation, the roles of LLDA, City of Taguig and the Rotary Clubs were discussed. Two sponsoring Rotary Clubs were assigned in each barangay to organize a RCC. The Real Good Presidents in attendance were able to interact with the community leaders of their selected barangays and presented the specific role of Rotarians in the project. As arranged by PP Chochit Tobias, District Chair, Rotary Public Relations, the event was well documented. It was covered by Ms. Cory Quirino and featured in her TV program aired in Channel 27.
