MAMMA MIA! HERE WE GO AGAIN!
The RCMBA 2008 Induction Ceremonies, Sep. 16, 2008
Posted Sep. 26, 2008 |
| Inspired by the West End musical Mamma Mia, which was later made into a movie set in the Greek island of Kalokairi in a ramshackle but still graceful taverna called Villa Donna, the Rotary Club of Makati Bel-Air (RCMBA) held the induction of its RY 2008-2009 officers, led by President Yolly Abueg, at The Palm Grove, Rockwell Club, Makati City last September 16, 2008. |

As everyone knows, Mamma Mia is also a tribute to the songs of ABBA, one of the most iconic musical groups in the 70’s and 80’s. Thus, the ceremonies started with the song “I Have a Dream” as an invocation sang by the angelic voices of Mary Rotzi and Maya Agnes, both beautiful daughters of PP Santi Dapul and Ann Rose. It was interpreted in a graceful dance by young ballerina Solana Beatriz, the lovely and math-savvy daughter of PP Raffy Aquino and Ann Frances.
It was an affair like no other. Everyone present was given a taste of a warm and festive kalosorisma (Greek for “welcome”) by the club’s very own Mamma Mia, Charter President Sonie Zamora. The special guests include district officers led by Gov. Boyet Limon, Real Good Presidents, officers from Pres. Yolly’s company, AMWSLAI, led by Chairman Col. Ricardo L. Nolasco, Jr., families and close friends who all came to grace the occasion. The night’s hosts were PPs Raffy Aquino and Nenette Aseniero.
The Angelos, PP Charo Yu’s protégés and one of the country’s premiere ambassadors of music to the world, delighted the crowd with their renditions of songs Il Divo style. RCMBA is hosting The Angelos’ first year anniversary concert on October 9, 2008, the proceeds of which will go the club’s various Child Mortality Reduction, environment and livelihood projects.
In a fine performance, the RCMBA ladies sang “Super Trouper” to pay tribute to the club’s youth, life, loves and passions, and to set the pace for the night’s most significant part of the program, the officers’ induction. They were charged by PDG Tony Rufino and sworn into office by DG Boyet, who was all praises to the RCMBA members in his keynote address earlier, particularly, to the 11 of them who are currently serving as district officers. |

After the brief turnover of the club’s leadership from IPP Rico Ocampo to Pres Yolly, the RCMBA gentlemen did a “Dancing Queen” song and dance number to introduce Pres Yolly for her inaugural address. Much like the highly acclaimed performance of Meryl Streep, the star of the movie, Pres Yolly sang solo “The Winner Takes it All” colorfully adding drama to her already inspiring acceptance speech. The specially arranged and choreographed "Mamma Mia" medley was performed by the boys and girls together, winding up with the melodious “Thank You for the Music” to cap the evening’s program, amidst a resounding applause by the audience.

| Why Mamma Mia as a Rotary induction theme? As the song goes, “Mamma Mia, here we (I) go again!,” this year’s RCMBA officers and members can’t seem to wait for their chance to do what they do best – Rotary fellowships and service, nothing more, nothing less. |
