RCMBA TURNS OVER BAKERY AND
LAUNCHES ANTI-DENGUE PROGRAM

Feb. 28, 2009, Welfareville, Mandaluyong City

In a simple ceremony last Feb. 28, 2009, RCMBA Pres. Yolly Abueg, formaly turned over the bakery equipment and implements covered by the club's TRF-funded "Combating Micro-Nutrient Deficiency" project, to its implementing partner, the Jose Fabella Memorial School headed by Principal Erdelinda Diaz.

The project is made possible by funding support from the Rotary Foundation under Matching Grant No. 66454 in the amount of US$10,000.  It covers the setting up of a complete bakery and fishpond aimed to make availabe highly nutritious food products at low cost to students and the general public within the community.  It will also serve as a livelihood for the RCMBA Rotary Community Corps of Welfareville, provide nutritious food for the shool and community children and sustain RCMBA's feeding program for the GK Sibol kids of the club's adopted community in Welfareville. (see related article...)


Save Our Children / Anti-Dengue and Environmental Project

Prior to the turnover, PP Harold Dacumos, who is also the D3830 Chair for Rotary Community Corps Community (RCC), led the launching of the RCMBA "Save our Children / Anti-Dengue and Environmental" Project to kick-start the community cleaning program in Barangay Addition Hills to be led by RCC Welfareville.  Primarily to eliminate dengue-carrying mosquitoes and other pest that pose serious health risks to the children, the program's major component is the use of natural biodegradable pesticides supplied by the Green Cow Company.  The project is supported by a P25,000 grant from the Gilda Lim Foundation.  Green Cow will also make available their environment-friendly health products for distribution by interested members of the community as a livelihood activity.

The day's activities were witnessed by RCMBA CP Sonie Zamora, PE Roland Zurbano, Treasurer Tanya Lumanlan, Club Sec. Danny Palma, Service Dir. Noi Alunan, Rtn Marines Elizalde (with son Josef) and Rtn. Amy Sanchez.  PE Roland will oversee the full implementation of the projects during his term.  Also present were the Welfarevile RCC officers, Barangay Block Leaders and GK officers led by Ron Navarro.
