RCMBA 17th INDUCTION: AN INTERNATIONAL CELEBRATION
August 31, 2010, Makati City
|
|
|
| After the painstaking brainstorming on the theme concept, weekly practices for the choreographed dance number, costume designs, selection of venue and food, decoration, program script, audio-visuals, souvenir program and all related preparation logistics, the Rotary Club of Makati Bel-Air’s 17th Induction Night, held last August 31, 2010 at the Palm Grove, Rockwell Club, Makati, was another milestone worth recording in the club’s history books. |
 |
Dubbed as “An International Celebration of Rotary Service,” in recognition of Rotary International’s RY 2010-11 theme “Building Communities - Bridging Continents,” the turnover of the club leadership from President Roland Zurbano to President Robbie Bonoan and the assumption of this year’s new set of officers, has truly been of global proportions. Charged by Immediate Past District Governor Sid Garcia, the new RCMBA officers were formally inducted into office by District Governor Ed Alvarez, as follows:

| The district officers’ team was led by DG Ed Alvarez with Lady Mariz, PDG Tony Rufino, PDG Guiller Tumangan, PDG Tony Quila, PDG Boyet Limon, IPDG Sid Garcia, DGE Billy Villareal and DGN Sue Sta. Maria, among others. More than 10 club president classmates of Pres. Robbie were present to give him support and, together, sang the district theme song after the inspiring but challenging speech of DG Ed. |

A delegation from the Rotary Club of Temerloh (RCT) of District 3300, Malaysia, composed by Pres. Liew Fook Hung, PP Surina Suhaimi, PP Chan Kok Chye, PP Ravi Chander and Rtn. Thasbir Singh, was present to grace the occasion and reciprocating the visit of Pres. Robbie and IPP Roland to attend RCT’s installation last July 17, 2010 in Malaysia. As a token, Pres. Liew handed over to Pres. Robbie copies of news clippings on that particular trip to Malaysia published by several local Chinese newspapers in Temerloh.
RCT and RCMBA signed their sister club agreement last March 18, 2010. The Malaysian Rotarians also took the opportunity to visit RCMBA’s various service project implementations, primarily, the bakeries at the Jose Fabella and Pedro P. Cruz schools in Mandaluyong City that provide cheap but nutritious food to the students. |

As encouraged by the affair’s international theme, many came in colorful country costumes, including DG Ed in blue silk Chinese top and lady Mariz in a glamorous flowing Spanish dress. The RCMBA members are, likewise, in their Spanish, Chinese, Filipiniana and Polynesian outfit. Others came in the prescribed district uniform and business attires.
Despite a downpour causing heavy traffic and delayed arrival of some guests, the program went on smoothly and finished as scheduled. The invocation was recited by Rtn. Dyttas Marquez while PP Rico Ocampo led the singing of the Malaysian and Philippine national anthems, both accompanied by video playback. CP Sonie Zamora delivered the welcome address and PP Chochit Tobias did the recognition of the guests. PPs Nenette Aseniero and Harry Dacumos were the night’s gracious hosts.
The food was splendid, highlighted by a sinful large lechon, with plenty of wines to wash them down. But, what made it more exciting was the much-awaited dance number of what is, probably, now district-infamous, Bel-Air Dancers. It was a choreographed medley of graceful Chinese folk, spirited Spanish flamenco and lusty Maori-inspired hula and rock-a-hula. The “Stitch” mascot (of Disney’s Lilo and Stitch animated series) joining the dancers towards the end, gave a hilarious climax to the performance.
The RCMBA 17th Induction night was truly an affair to remember. |
