September 28, 2010, Basilio's Resto, Bonifacio Global City
RCMBA held a joint meeting with RC Makati San Nicolas, led by Pres. Christine Estepa, last September 28, 2010 at Basilio's Restaurant. The guest speaker was Ms. Doris Nuval, the Director for Resource Mobilization and Channel Operations of the Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI), who spoke on the "Role of Educational TV in Improving Literacy among the Poor in Society."
KCFI's primary objective to educate and empower poor and marginalized children through media so that they may realize their full potential to best serve their communities and help build a better world. Formerly known as the SKY Foundation, KCFI is a corporate social responsibility arm of the Lopez Group of Companies. Its President and Executive Director, Rina Lopez-Bautista, founded it in response to the urgent need to improve the level of education in the country.
Currently, the Foundation's main thrust is to provide and install satellite infrastructure and cable TV facilities in order to deliver educational TV materials to help improve the academic performance of the Filipino student in major subject areas such as English, Math and Science. Aside from basic subjects, KCFI is also bringing content development to a new level by weaving in values and lessons students can develop through awareness in critical issues such as the environment, health, education, governance, population and peace.
Ms. Nuval was accompanied by Marilou Tioseco, who is also from The Knowledge Channel.
