ON TYPHOONS AND LANDSLIDES
November 17, 2010, Makati City

District 3830 Rotarians, including RCMBA members, in a joint meeting held at the Italian restaurant L'Ambasciata D'Abruzzo, Makati City last November 17, 2010, experienced deeper understanding on natural disasters that prevail in the country almost every year.

Guest speakers Ms. Juliet Arruejo, a Weather Specialist of the  Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical & Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), talked about Typhoons and Floods; and Dr. karlo Queano, a Geologist from the Mines and Geo Sciences Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), discussed Mudslides and Landslides.  Both subjects certainly served as eye openers for many among the audience on how and why such disasters are common in the Philippines, and what we can do to minimize the damages they cause.

The joint meeting was organized by RC Makati Rockwell led by Pres. Eph Despabiladeras.  The attending Rotarians from RC Makati Olympia was led by CP Rose Acoba; RC San Nicolas Makati was led by Pres. Christine Estepa, and RCMBA was led Pres. Robbie Bonoan.

Also in attendance were members of the Voice of Olympia chorale group who won as the grand champion in the Chorale Category of the D3830 Youth Solo and Chorale Singing Competition held on Nov. 14, 2010 at the Pacific College in Magallanes, Makati City.  The group is a sponsored Rotaract Club of RC Makati Olympia and gave a performance on its winning musical talent.
