ART FOR A CAUSE GAINING GROUND
Rotarians, Civic Minded Art Aficionados Give Full Support

Officials and members of Philippine Rotary including civic minded art aficionados and collectors came in force during the opening of the Rotary Club of Makati Bel-Air's "Art for a Cause" fundraising project.  On opening night alone, last Tuesday, September 25, 2007, at Galerie Joaquin Main (371 P. Guevarra st., corner Montessori Lane, San Juan Tel. 7239253) 12 artworks were sold with Guest of Honor and current District 3830 Governor Ato Magadia leading the art patrons.

Gov. Magadia bought a 36” x 48” painting by artist Nell Campos titled “The Palay Harvest”. Sharing President Louie Vega of Makati South bought two Sanso works in acrylic on paper. CP (Charter President) Sonie Zamora of RCMBA acquired a centerpiece abstract work as well as two naif styled artworks from artist Tito Espanol. Gov Magadia is mulling the possibility of acquiring the other Nell Campos painting titled “The Fish Harvest” which makes the two harvest paintings an attractive pair. CP Zamora is considering adding two of Aldrino Abes’ recent anthropologically inspired abstract works and a Glenn Cagandahan sculpture “Trombone” to her charity inspired acquisitions. Sharing President Jules Nidea is considering acquiring Sanso pieces while guests of PP Nenet Aseniero are mulling the major Sanso piece in the project.

The twelve artworks sold on opening night generates a total of P 289,000 gross value in sales. Rtn. Arlene Tobias acquired a Cagandahan sculpture titled “Violinist” and a Tito Espanol work. PP (Past President) of RC Makati Dasmarinas Joji Tan, acquired a Glenn Cagandahan sculpture titled “Flutist” while PP Charo Yu acquired a Tito Espanol and Rtn. Roland Zurbano acquired Richard Arimado’s “Buko Harvest”.

PP Jack Teotico welcomed the guests to Galerie Joaquin Main while RCMBA President Rico Ocampo gave an overview of the beneficiaries of the project. Guest of Honor Gov. Magadia gave an inspiring message. The opening had stellar guests from the Rotary movement and was honored by the presence of some of the top artists of the country including Juvenal Sanso, Ramon Orlina, Mario Parial, Lydia Velasco, Carlo Magno, Dominic Rubio, Vincent de Pio, Aileen Lanuza, Glenn Cagandahan, Tito Espanol, Aldrino Abes and Rene Marbella.

The exhibit runs until October 4, 2007 hence there is enough time for concerned patrons to visit the gallery, or visit the websites www.galeriejoaquin.com and www.rcmakatibelair.org to acquire artworks from the outstanding artists that supported this project.

Beneficiaries include feeding projects, education and nutrition related projects of RCMakati Bel Air at the Gawad Kalinga site in Welfareville as well as other adopted sites of the club in Makati.
