Christmas Gift Giving for Brgy Olympia
Covered Courts of Bel Air Community Hall, Makati City
Attendees: Pres. Rico, PP Rachel, PE Yolly, CP Sonie, PP Charo, Rtn Caron, Sec. Tanya

Highlights:
RCMBA is among several organizations who participate in this yearly gift-giving activity and has been doing for the last 14 years starting from the term of CP Sonie. It was originally started by RCM and our club was invited to join.  Our members pledged and donated cash and chose their family beneficiary during one of the previous club meetings. All in all, the club was able to raise funds for 80 family recipients. Rtn Jeanne Monteverde was gracious enough to buy and pack the groceries in plastic pails.

The program started with a mass and speeches from some organization representatives. Pres. Rico gave encouraging words of commitment to this worthy cause, as what his predecessors have done and assured the beneficiaries of RCMBA’s continued support even after his term.

The gift of groceries were then distributed to chosen families who, in turn, gave gifts of  bottled food delicacies including prayer requests for and in behalf of their sponsors. The members were touched with the sincere expressions of gratitude as each family received their gift.  This indeed is a worthy cause.

Governor’s Visit to RCMBA
Basilio's Restaurant, The Fort, Bonifacio Global City
Attendees: 20 + honorary member AG Paul and guest Michael

Highlights:
Usual early birds PP Charo and PP Harold arrived at 5pm with AG Paul while the rest came a bit later.  Gov. Ato arrived at around 7:15pm.  Pres. Rico and DS Ric had the preliminary one-on-one meeting so he could relay it to the Gov.  The meeting started promptly at 7:30 pm.  PP Nenette was the moderator, PE Yolly did the invocation, PP Jimmy led the National Anthem, Rtn Danny showed the video of Rotarian Song, Rtn Noi led the recitation of the 4 Way Test and CP Sonie welcomed the guests.  Pres. Rico went through his President’s time and made his mid-year report presentation.  During dinner, Gov. Ato and Pres. Rico discussed the club’s concerns.

After the presentation, new member Rtn Jeanette was called in front to be inducted. AG Paul did the charging, Gov. Ato did the induction and Pres. Rico pinned the Rotary Pin, thus, officially welcoming Jeanette to the RCMBA family. Pres. Rico then read a surprise club’s certificate bestowing an honorary membership on AG Paul Magno in the presence of Gov Ato, DS Ric and CP Sonie. Thereafter, Gov. Ato conducted the ceremonial pinning of Paul Harris Fellow pins on Rtn Caron, CP Sonie, Pres. Rico and PP Rachel.

PP Raffy introduced the governor prior to his inspirational talk, who, incidentally, were Caring President classmates during RY 97-98. Gov. Ato congratulated the club for its outstanding achievements and encouraged all members to give their all out support to ensure that the club’s plans and programs for the next 6 months are carried out successfully, especially on the recruitment of quality members. Afterwards, Pres. Rico gave a token of appreciation to Gov Ato and PP Santi delivered the traditional response in his usual witty and humorous way.

That evening, which was a review of RCMBA’s activities for the last 6 months, was truly meaningful. Per Gov Ato’s assessment, we have performed with flying colors and all these was possible because of the total support of all the club members. Congratulations to us all!

Pres. Rico, PP Rachel and Rtn Noi met at CP Sonie’s residence before proceeding to Total Service Station to meet up with Rtn Gen and fiancée Michael and the RCMB members.  The group arrived at the Pampanga High School after passing through heavy traffic at San Fernando as it was, coincidentally, Pampanga Day and some main thoroughfares were closed to traffic.

Seeing these special children is a very humbling experience. Those talented ones performed for their guests while the Rotarians did an impromptu sing-along started by Pres. Rico. The Rotarians distributed gifts to the delight of the children, and surely everyone enjoyed the party.   Both RCMBA and RCMB committed to continue supporting IMMF’s worthy cause. The foundation, in turn, awarded the clubs with Certificates of Appreciation for sponsoring their “Christmas for Special Children.”

We then proceeded to the farm of Dir. Nards in San Simon where we were treated to Pampanga delicacies. We all went home feeling fulfilled that we have provided service to needy children with the conviction that we will still do more.

Several issues were taken up, among which, are as follows:
  1. Cash Position of the Club – About P50k.
  1. Membership Dues – Directions were given to collect before the end of the year to members who have not yet paid their dues.
  1. P & L Report of Art for a Cause Project – Total revenues was around P500k (including receivables). About P300k would be going to paying the artists. Direct Expenses amounted to about P40k. Actual cash/credit card sales for that night was about P100k. Thus, the club was given a partial proceed of P50k (net of direct expenses). Thus any collection from receivables would go to the club’s coffers; of course after paying off the artists. The club is still expecting about P100k++ if receivables are collected.
  1. Projects:
    • Nov. 24 – Club Hosting of the Pre PETS HGR Series 2 at AIM Acceed

A total 386 Rotarians and guests attendees registered for this successful affair. But, with the looks of the turnout and table and chairs needed to be added, we estimate the actual attendance to be more than 400. This was a feat beyond expectation.  District 3820 also has about 90 participants. As early as 5:30pm, guests started to arrive and register.  Anticipating that tables would soon be filled, attendees started to reserve tables, to the frustration of some clubs.  A total of 28 D-3830 clubs co-hosted this event. Starting from a few who we gathered right after the RIPE lunch, more clubs joined. PP Nenette, together with PP Roger Aguiling of RCRW, emceed the proceedings. PP Santi moderated the open forum, Rtn Pinky helped PP Rachel in directing the program, Rtn Caron sang the US national anthem Star Spangled Banner and yours truly, together with some game Sharing Presidents, sang the Philippine national anthem.

The big turnout may be attributed to the presence of Her Excellency US Ambassador Kristie Kenny and US Embassy Vice Consul John Wilcock, who were personally invited by PP Rachel. And of course, no less than our beloved DG Ato Magadia and Spouse Vicky, together with the PDGs and other district officers, were present to give their full support. We were also able to get some sponsors like free 1 night accommodations in LA, Travel Insurance, cash donations, hotel accommodation in Palawan and others. So folks, next stop is LA in 2008.

The group followed the funeral from the Dapul’s ancestral home to the church. PP Santi walked the stretch with his family while the group followed in their cars. The group left for Manila right after.

Our condolences again to PP Santi and his family.

Art for a Cause (2nd Run) and Fellowship Night (October b-day celebrants)
Galerie Joaquin, San Juan, MM
Attendees: 16

Highlights:
Due to the bad weather, only a few guests arrived like PDG Jimmy Cura (who made up for his absence during the first run) and Serving President classmates of PP Charo. However the weather did not prevent the members from attending to savour the "toka-toka" of the October bday celebrants: Charo, Jeane, Roland, Gig, Yolly and Sonie.

Charo and Jeane brought their delicious Chicken Pandan and Pancit; Roland brought his irresistible desserts; Sonie contributed her gourmet Italian pastas; Jack donated his famous white spaghetti; and Yolly, who had to go back to her home just to get her much acclaimed kare-kare, and go through hell of a 2-hour traffic jam so members could have a taste. There was enough food stuff, with matching calories, for a hundred people! Those present had a frenzy looking for plastics bags and containers to make "balot". So, sorry for those who missed the fun. Eat your hear out! All the food, wine and birthday cake was worth the waiting. Again, Happy Birthday to the October b-day celebrants!
