To increase dues or not, to meet in one place or to rove, to re-district or not, to approve RI's amendments or not. These were among the major perestroika issues placed before the Club in its fourth year. With gleeful irreverent lawyer at the helm, the Club deliberated, acted, and then promptly adjourned to Tagaytay Highlands and Mimosa, to videoke nights, steak, pasta, chocolate decadence, cigars, and fellowship!
Of course, between mouthfuls of Castillian lengua and Bel-Air Bordeaux, the members did manage to squeeze in some service: helping build a community library, promoting literacy and proper career selection among public schools students, systematizing and internationalizing (with Japanese collaborators) their dental missions, donating eyeglasses to the astigmatic masses, Christmas gift giving at Brgy. Olympia, teaching women self-sufficiency skills in Tagaytay, honoring valedictorians and outstanding soldiers, walking for peace, and even entering a District song competition where they bravely recited the Club song "Rotarian Family!"
Also throughout the year, the Club gleefully and irreverently had for dinner their after-dinner speakers, from Congress and Mother Lily, academe and the occult community, private business and the bureaucracy, who all queued before the doors of the only Club regularly meeting at Makati Shangri-La.
Another banner year for selfless service and dedication! And yet another reason for the members to once again retire to CP Sonie’s house to deeply contemplate upon the relative virtues of Pampango sisig with Chilean Merlot versus buttered prawns with German Riesling. Ahhh . . . |
