RY 2002 - 2003

Jaime "JImmy" Dinglasan

“Would that there were kings in Gondor,
as there were once upon a time, they say!
For it is said in old lore:
‘The hands of the king are the hands of a healer.’
And so the rightful king could ever be known.”

- from Return of the Kin, Vol. III of the Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien

Tolkien speaks of a legend from the mists of time, of the Return of the King. It is foretold that weshall know him because the hands of the King are the hands of a healer. In July 2002, upon the adventof the “Loving Year” by the reckoning of Rotary International, the members of the Rotary Club of MakatiBel-Air knew that the prophecy had come to pass. The legend had arrived.

Pres. Jimmy Dinglasan, MD, is indeed a healer, but he was much more than this. He had the powerful vision of the Dunedain, the Fathers of Men, and with this farsightedness, guided the Club to recognition and esteem within the District and beyond. He made music (as wondrousas the songs of the Queen Galadriel, mightiest of the Elves in Middle Earth) and from its tendrils forged magical links of camaraderie andsolidarity among the members of the Club.

His was a quiet, unassuming presidency, in the tradition of Gandalf’s gentle and self-effacing leadership of the Fellowship of the Ring, andwith this led Makati Bel-Air into its fabled march into renown, restoring sight and health, imparting livelihood skills, winning oratorical contests, hosting district activities, leading district projects, linking arms with Rotarians in Hong Kong and from California, and enjoying the sheerpleasure of each other’s company all along the way.

When finally Aragorn Elesar relinquished the kingship to his son, the realm of Gondor was at peace, secure in its restored glory and itsplace in the songs and legends of Middle Earth. So was it with Jimmy. By the time the presidency passed on to The Lady Who Came After, RCMBA was, more than ever, a place of genteel fellowship, secure in undimmed light of its star, and its place among the great in the halls of RI.
