"In the beginning, there
was only chaos and darkness. Then in 1994, the
Rotary Club of Makati Bel-Air was chartered,
and the darkness was banished. But in the chaos
remained! And it was fun!" |

It all started in 1993, in
a strategic Business Economic Program Class
at the Center for Research and Communication,
when classmates Sonie Zamora of RC Makati JP
Rizal and Bert Valerio of RC Makati West finally
realized that the Philippine economy was neither
strategic nor business-like. Bored, they started
talking to their other classmates about Rotary
Clubs instead; and before the class was over,
they decided to form one.
Failing to convince their
professor that organizing a new Rotary club
was a valid graduate thesis, Sonie and Bert
next brought the idea to DG Leo De Guzman. At
Once, DG Leo anointed their respective clubs,
RC Makati JP Rizal and Makati West to go forth
and procreate! And they did, con gusto, ariba
ariba!!!
So it came to pass that out
of a first organizational meeting on 13 January
1994 held in the residence of Supremo Sonie
Zamora was born the Provisional Rotary Club
of Makati Bel-Air. It was composed of a starting
core of 13 CRC classmates led by Sonie and Bert,
without their CRC professor.
By February, the group was
regularly meeting, first at the Manila Polo
Club then at the providentially named "Bel-Air"
function room of the Intercon. it was in this
venue that, on 01 February 1994, the group finally
adopted the Constitution and By-Laws of the
club, and finally elected Sonie Zamora as Charter
President and Bert Valerio as President Elect.
it was now time to take the show on the road,
and Rotary International quaked in its boots. |
